Q. I am having a difficult time in trying to figure this out. I really want to play some of my Windows games on Linux. I know there are some ways to do it, I just don't know what they are or how to do it. How do I play/install Windows games on Linux using Wine? Are there easier, less complicated methods to do this?
A. option 1: dual boot windows and Linux
option 2: use wine. you can probably find a tutorial on how to use wine. just search how to use wine on Linux. However not all games are compatible with wine so you'll have to Google specific games to see their compatibility. for example if you want to play Splinter cell 3 on Linux with wine you could Google "is splinter cell 3 compatible with wine" or "splinter cell 3 on Linux"

How do I run Steam games on Linux?
Q. I got Steam to work on Linux using Wine. All my games worked just fine for a while, but all of the sudden none of them will run (except Portal for some reason). When i try to open them it says, "Preparing to launch," then does nothing. Does anyone know what the problem is, or how to fix it?
A. You could use a program like WINE (Windows Emulator) to get it going. Or you can try a virtual machine but sometimes that wont load drivers and you still wont be able to play. The best option will be a dual boot of windows and linux. The reason being, that for the sake of stability, for the drivers to work, and for you to get a good performance it is just easier to play on Windows (since all PC games are generally designed for Windows environments).
Is it better to dual-boot or to use a virtual machine?
Q. I'm moving from Windows 7 to Ubuntu 10.10 and i wanted to know weather is it better to dual boot the two operating systems or to use a windows virtual machine under linux... I would use windows only for games and maybe some apps that cant be run under linux. Or can i run games under Linux (Wine, mono...)
Thanks!
Thanks!
A. If you're going to be using Windows for gaming then it has to be installed in it's own partition. Virtual machines don't have access to the graphics card so your games would run horribly in one.
Since you say you're going to use Ubuntu as your main and Windows for games then I strongly suggest you dual boot.
On a side note, WINE and other such programs don't work with all Windows games. If you have a copy of Windows already just leave that on your computer and boot into it when you need it.
